My husband booked the Renoir Hotel along with his flight to San Francisco through a travel website, and was just amazed by the deal he got. I don't think he looked at any reviews until afterwards, and then, so did I. I WAS SO WORRIED!!! But there was no real reason for it. We got there, the staff was incredibly helpful and pointed out tours and restaurants for us to try. The lobby was clean and nothing smelled bad. There were a lot of "less fortunate" people outside, but they were across the street. People seemed to come and go all the time, no one stayed out there for long.
At any rate, neither me nor my husband were never approached by anyone. It is an older hotel, and the elevator is a little slow, but it was a smooth ride, and the elevator smelled nice. (You don't always get that in older hotels.) Our room was nice. We had two double beds. There was a good television with good reception. The sheets were clean (again, nice-smelling) and I even checked the mattresses, which were very clean.
I especially checked the edges, where one would see marks if there were bed bugs, and there were none. The bathroom was nice and clean. Not huge, but it had plenty of room. The towels were a little rough, but they're that way at my mom's house and they were fine. We were on the McAllister street side, and while there was a little noise (mostly sirens - I think the fire station is a couple blocks down - and some random yelling) I didn't have any trouble going to sleep, and neither did my husband.
We used the valet service for our rental car, mostly because of what we had read (on the internet), and after trying to find parking elsewhere, we were glad to do so. Just like any other city, it's hard to find street parking, and garages charge whatever they want. Our car was always delivered right away whenever we called for it, and again, the staff could not have been nicer. If we ever have the chance to go to San Francisco again, we'll definitely stay there, along with my kids, and I'd recommend it to anyone I know. It's GREAT!.
